Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has questioned the persistence of insecurity in Nigeria, saying modern technology should enable the government to locate criminals and respond more effectively to kidnappings and other crimes.

Obi spoke in an interview with ARISE News, where he said government surveillance capabilities should be focused on criminals rather than political opponents.

He said that if elected, his administration would prioritise tackling criminal activities rather than monitoring political opponents.

Obi also questioned why kidnappings and ransom demands continue despite advances in technology, saying the situation suggests weaknesses in the country’s security response.

He called for better use of available technology and security resources to protect Nigerians and combat criminal activities.
