2027 Governorship Campaigns Begin Across States

Campaigns for the 2027 governorship elections have officially commenced, with candidates and political parties unveiling their plans on security, agriculture, education, healthcare, employment and workers’ welfare.

In the North-West, seven African Democratic Congress governorship candidates signed a regional compact promising a N110,000 minimum wage, coordinated security measures, agricultural development and improved healthcare and education.

The candidates also pledged to establish specialist hospitals across the region and invest in roads, rail, power, water and digital infrastructure.

In Adamawa, APC candidate Tijani Galadima said his administration would prioritise agriculture by establishing processing factories and improving security to enable farmers to return to their farms.

In Abia, PDP candidate Kelechi Anosike launched a 10-point manifesto covering agriculture, healthcare, education, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment, security and infrastructure. He proposed a N90,000 minimum wage and measures to support farmers, traders and workers.

In Ogun, PDP candidate Oladipupo Adebutu unveiled an agenda focused on security, local government autonomy, workers’ welfare, agriculture, industrial development, education and healthcare.

Meanwhile, authorities in Enugu warned political parties against displaying campaign posters on unauthorised public and private structures, with violators facing fines of up to N50 million.

Security officials in Sokoto and Kano have also urged political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns and avoid hate speech, fake news and violence.

With campaigns now underway, security, jobs, agriculture, education, healthcare and infrastructure are emerging as key issues in the 2027 governorship contests.
