Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure communities affected by terrorism and ensure the safe return of displaced Nigerians.

Obi made the call after visiting an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

He said more than 45,000 people had reportedly been displaced, with over 20 communities allegedly affected by terrorist attacks.

Obi said many of the displaced residents wanted to return home, rebuild their communities, return to their farms and live in peace.

He urged the government to strengthen security in affected communities and restore public confidence in the ability of the state to protect citizens.

The former Anambra State governor also called for measures to support displaced Nigerians and create conditions for their safe and dignified return to their ancestral homes.

He stressed that displaced persons should not be forgotten, describing them as citizens whose homes, livelihoods and futures had been disrupted by insecurity.

Obi reiterated his call for a Nigeria where citizens can live, work, farm and raise their families in peace and security.
