Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has condemned the reported blockade of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi by youths in Benue State.
Obi was reportedly stopped from proceeding to Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area, where he planned to visit families affected by the June 2025 attacks in the community.
The incident sparked controversy, with Obi and his party alleging that the youths were sponsored, while the Benue State Government denied involvement. The police said they were aware of Obi’s movement and were investigating why the convoy was blocked.
Reacting to the incident, Keyamo said politicians should be allowed to move freely and campaign without intimidation or violence, regardless of their political affiliation.
He also called on the media to apply the same standards when reporting political confrontations involving candidates from different parties.
Keyamo urged Nigerians to express their political preferences through the ballot box rather than violence or intimidation during campaigns.
He stressed that political disagreements should be resolved through democratic processes and not through attacks or restrictions on candidates’ movements.
