The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has condemned the alleged obstruction of his convoy in Benue State by suspected political thugs and security operatives.

Obi was in the state on Tuesday to sympathise with communities affected by recent killings when his convoy was reportedly blocked along Boko Road, near the Air Force Base.

According to Obi, he was informed that youths allegedly sponsored by the state governor had blocked the road and prevented him from reaching the community he intended to visit.

The former Anambra State governor described the incident as “totally unacceptable” and questioned why he would be prevented from visiting victims of violence to offer condolences.

Obi expressed concern over the continued killings in Benue, saying people should be allowed to visit affected communities and show solidarity with victims.

The Benue State Government had yet to respond to the allegation as of the time of filing the report.
