The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has introduced a real-time readiness tracker to monitor election preparations across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this during a workshop for Administrative Secretaries in Lagos.

He said the technology would give the Commission instant visibility into the distribution of election materials, training of ad-hoc staff and the level of preparedness in each state.

According to him, the system is designed to replace reactive responses with proactive management and help address the logistical challenges that have affected previous elections.

Amupitan warned electoral officials against manipulation, administrative interference and other forms of misconduct, stressing that officers found violating electoral procedures would face consequences.

He also said INEC was strengthening its voter registration and result management systems, while working to make Permanent Voter Card collection easier for eligible voters.

The Commission said the Continuous Voter Registration conducted between August 2025 and July 2026 recorded 10,772,421 new registrants, subject to biometric verification.

The 2027 general elections are scheduled for January 16 and February 6, 2027.
