Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has defended his capacity to improve Nigeria, citing his record as former governor of Anambra State.
Obi was responding to comments by his former running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who said politicians challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027, including Obi, could not improve the country.
Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Obi said his experience in Anambra showed that he could deliver similar improvements at the national level if elected president.
He said his administration would focus on reducing the cost of governance, fighting corruption and waste, strengthening law and order, and ensuring credible elections.
Obi also listed national unity, security, healthcare, education and poverty reduction among his priorities.
Baba-Ahmed and Obi were running mates on the Labour Party ticket in the 2023 presidential election.
Baba-Ahmed had earlier advised President Tinubu to leave office but argued that the opposition politicians seeking to replace him, including Obi, would not improve Nigeria.
