Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa has praised the club’s fans and his teammates after making an impressive Emirates Stadium debut in Sunday’s 2-1 comeback victory over Chelsea.
The summer signing from Aston Villa won eight of 12 duels as he partnered Gabriel at the centre of Arsenal’s defence.
Konsa also made a crucial tackle on former Aston Villa teammate and close friend Morgan Rogers as Chelsea attempted to launch a counter-attack.
The 28-year-old said the atmosphere at the Emirates helped Arsenal recover after conceding an early goal.
“I really enjoyed the occasion. My first London derby and I thought the fans were fantastic. They stayed behind us throughout the whole game,” Konsa said.
Arsenal fell behind to Rogers’ early goal but responded through Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season.
Konsa said the team’s reaction showed their character and mentality.
He added that he had quickly settled into the club since joining and praised the players and coaching staff for helping him adapt.
“I felt right at home from day one. The boys have been top, the staff have been top,” he said.
Despite Arsenal’s strong start, Konsa urged the team to remain focused and approach the season one game at a time.
