The Federal Government has commended the Redeemed Christian Church of God for donating $265,854 towards the evacuation of Nigerians affected by xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in South Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the donation will fund 500 one-way tickets for distressed Nigerians seeking to return home.

The ministry described the gesture as a demonstration of compassion and support for Nigerians facing difficult conditions abroad.

The Federal Government began evacuating distressed Nigerians from South Africa on June 10, 2026, following renewed xenophobic attacks.

So far, 1,640 Nigerians have been brought back to the country, with 1,385 evacuated through government funding and 255 through philanthropic support.

The ministry said 202 Nigerians are currently awaiting final screening by South African authorities before their evacuation.

The Federal Government said it would continue engaging South African authorities to address recurring cases of xenophobia and protect the welfare of Nigerians in the country.
