Heavy security has been deployed across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election following concerns over violence in parts of the state.

Soldiers, police officers and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been deployed to major towns and identified hotspots, with the police warning thugs and other troublemakers to stay away from the poll.

Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, said the police would remain professional and neutral while protecting the electoral process.

The development comes amid reports of more than 30 deaths linked to violence in the state during the election campaign.

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who was invited by the police over a controversial comment, was later released after clarifying that he meant APC supporters should defeat Accord with their votes.

Meanwhile, INEC has included Social Democratic Party candidate Francis Olugbenga Ajala on the ballot following a Federal High Court judgment, bringing the number of parties contesting the election to 15.
