The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed President Bola Tinubu’s political rhetoric for controversial comments attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Fadahunsi may have interpreted Tinubu’s statement that “all is fair in politics” as approval for political actors to do whatever is necessary to win elections.

“I don’t want to blame Senator Fadahunsi. I blame President Bola Tinubu,” Abdullahi said during an interview on Arise News.

Fadahunsi was recently questioned by the Osun State Police Command over comments made at an APC campaign rally in Ilesa, which were interpreted as encouraging supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.

Abdullahi said political leaders must be careful with their statements because supporters could interpret them as approval for violence during elections.

Meanwhile, he expressed confidence that the ADC could win Saturday’s election if the poll is free and fair.

The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, is among those contesting the election alongside incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
