Shettima Begins Two-Week Leave, Returns August 20

Vice President Kashim Shettima has begun a two-week leave approved by President Bola Tinubu, his first since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said Shettima would use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal.

According to Nkwocha, the leave will allow the Vice President to review ongoing government programmes, consider emerging national and global policy issues and prepare for upcoming responsibilities.

Since assuming office, Shettima has been involved in the coordination of government initiatives covering economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He also chairs the National Economic Council, which comprises the governors of the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other government officials.

The Vice President has also represented President Tinubu at major international and regional engagements, including G20 and AU-EU summits.

Nkwocha said Shettima remained committed to supporting the President’s efforts to build a more secure and prosperous Nigeria.

The Vice President is expected to resume his official duties on or around August 20, 2026.
