Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, the Kebbi State High Court judge who was abducted by gunmen last week, has regained his freedom after spending one week in captivity.

A family member confirmed the development on Monday, saying the judge had returned home safely, sparking celebrations among relatives and well-wishers.

According to the family, Justice Bunza was released a few hours before arriving home, bringing an end to days of anxiety following his abduction.

The family expressed gratitude to God for his safe return and thanked everyone who stood by them throughout the ordeal.

They also appreciated the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their prayers, support and expressions of solidarity during the period of captivity.

The family noted that the encouragement and concern shown by members of the public gave them strength while awaiting the judge’s release.

However, they declined to disclose the circumstances surrounding his freedom, saying details of how he was released would be made public at a later time.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kebbi State Judiciary nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the judge’s release.

Justice Bunza’s abduction had generated widespread concern across Kebbi State, with legal practitioners, judicial officials and residents calling for intensified efforts to secure his freedom.

His safe return has been welcomed with relief, while many continue to await official details regarding the operation that led to his release.
