A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, has successfully completed a 144-hour marathon reading of the Holy Bible in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous Bible reading.

The remarkable feat was completed after six days of uninterrupted reading, with the challenge conducted in strict compliance with Guinness World Records guidelines, which permit only limited breaks for participants to attend to essential needs.

The initiative, themed “144 Hours in the Word,” was conceived as a faith-based project aimed at encouraging Christians to cultivate a deeper relationship with the Scriptures and promote consistent Bible study among believers.

Habibat’s record attempt officially began on June 22 at the Novotel in Port Harcourt and concluded on June 29, after she successfully completed the full 144-hour reading marathon.

Throughout the challenge, she read aloud continuously from the Bible while being closely monitored to ensure adherence to the official Guinness World Records regulations governing endurance record attempts. The rules required continuous reading, with only brief scheduled breaks accumulated over time.

The event drew significant attention from supporters who gathered to cheer her on throughout the six-day exercise. Family members, friends, church members and other well-wishers provided encouragement both at the venue and through social media, celebrating each milestone as she progressed toward completing the marathon.

Videos shared online captured emotional moments during the challenge, showing Habibat reading from a lectern while digital countdown timers tracked the remaining hours. Many supporters described the exercise as an inspiring demonstration of discipline, perseverance and unwavering faith.

According to those close to the project, the journey toward the record attempt began several years ago and involved months of careful planning, spiritual preparation and physical endurance training required for such a demanding exercise.

Beyond the pursuit of a world record, the initiative was intended to place renewed emphasis on the importance of God’s Word, encouraging individuals and families to devote more time to reading and studying the Bible.

Church leaders and members who supported the event described it as a spiritual mission designed not only to celebrate the Scriptures but also to inspire believers around the world to strengthen their personal devotion and commitment to Christian values.

The atmosphere throughout the event combined elements of endurance, worship and celebration, with supporters regularly offering prayers, words of encouragement and praise as Habibat continued reading through the different books of the Bible over the six-day period.

Having successfully completed the 144-hour marathon, Habibat has now submitted her performance for assessment and will await official verification by Guinness World Records before the achievement can be formally recognised.

If certified, the accomplishment would mark another significant milestone for Nigeria in the global record books while highlighting the power of faith, determination and resilience in pursuing extraordinary goals.
