IPOB Announces New Directorate of State Leadership as Kanu Dissolves Third Administration

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the dissolution of its third Directorate of State (DOS) administration and the inauguration of a new leadership team.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, who said the decision was made by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

According to the statement, Mazi Chris Nwaogu, based in the United States, has been appointed as the Head of the newly inaugurated fourth Directorate of State and is to assume immediate responsibility for the administration and coordination of the group’s affairs.

The Directorate of State serves as IPOB’s administrative arm and has overseen the organisation’s activities since its establishment in 2012.

The statement said the decision to dissolve the outgoing administration followed what it described as a comprehensive assessment of its performance during a critical period for the movement.

Among the reasons cited were the alleged failure to adequately support detained members, misplaced organisational priorities, internal divisions, ineffective protection of the group’s integrity, weaknesses in communication platforms, and the need for organisational renewal.

According to the statement, the new administration has been tasked with rebuilding confidence within the organisation, restoring unity, strengthening accountability, improving communication, and prioritising the welfare of members.

The newly constituted leadership team includes officials responsible for finance, welfare, media, regional coordination, diplomatic engagement and women’s affairs across different parts of the world.

The statement also announced that all previous suspensions and expulsions within the organisation have been set aside, with affected members reinstated.

IPOB maintained that the new leadership would oversee the group’s day-to-day affairs in line with the directives of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
