The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has passed away.
The respected traditional ruler reportedly died at his residence in Ibadan after a brief illness.
Until his death, Oba Isioye-Dada held the prestigious title of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, one of the most senior positions in the Balogun line of the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy system.
His passing is expected to set in motion the traditional succession process within the Balogun line, resulting in the promotion of several chiefs and high chiefs in accordance with the Ibadan chieftaincy hierarchy.
Among those expected to benefit from the succession is All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Sharafadeen Ali, who is projected to move from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland, subject to the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
Also expected to advance is Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, who is likely to be elevated from the position of Ekerin Balogun to Asipa Balogun as the succession process progresses.
The traditional promotions will follow the established Ibadan chieftaincy succession system, which provides for the orderly advancement of chiefs whenever a vacancy occurs.
