No fewer than eight shops were destroyed in a fire outbreak that affected a row of 11 shops at No. 2, Mobolorunduro, Balaro Street, Oju-Odo Academy area of Ona-Ara Local Government Area, Ibadan, on Wednesday.
According to the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the incident was reported at about 2:33 a.m., prompting an immediate response from firefighters who were swiftly deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered that eight of the 11 shops had been severely affected by the blaze. The firefighters successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to the remaining shops and nearby properties.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and remains under investigation. No casualty was recorded during the incident.
Fire officials advised members of the public to be more conscious of fire safety measures and encouraged the installation of fire extinguishers in commercial buildings to help contain outbreaks before they escalate.
An eyewitness, Bukola Ogundeji, said the fire started around 12:30 a.m., adding that the exact cause of the incident had not yet been established.
