NSCDC deploys 56,000 personnel nationwide for Eid-el-Kabir celebration

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed more than 56,000 personnel across the country ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful festive period nationwide.

The deployment is aimed at protecting lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure during the celebrations, as security agencies intensify efforts to prevent criminal activities and maintain public order.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, directed the immediate mobilisation of personnel and operational equipment to various parts of the country as part of measures to guarantee adequate security coverage before, during, and after the Sallah festivities.

As part of the operation, the Corps also deployed operational vehicles, ambulances, boats, and K9 units to improve emergency response and enhance surveillance in vulnerable locations.

The NSCDC further placed all its specialised tactical units on high alert to tackle any potential security threats that may arise during the celebration period.

The tactical squads activated for the operation include the Mining Marshals, Special Intelligence Squad, Crack Squad, Female Special Force, and the Rapid Response Squad.

The Corps said senior officers, including Zonal Commanders and State Commandants, have been directed to closely monitor operations within their respective jurisdictions to ensure effective implementation of all security directives.

According to the NSCDC, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Outpost Heads have also been instructed to maintain strict surveillance and remain proactive throughout the festive season.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies to ensure a safe and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the federation.

Members of the public were also urged to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crimes and responding swiftly to emergencies.

The Corps warned individuals or groups planning to disrupt public peace, vandalise public infrastructure, or engage in criminal activities during the celebration to desist, stressing that anyone found violating the law would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
