Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the price of aviation fuel, also known as Jet A1, from N1,750 to N1,650 per litre in a move aimed at easing operational costs for airlines and ensuring stable fuel supply across the country.

The refinery also introduced a 30-day interest-free credit facility backed by bank guarantees for marketers and airline operators, alongside a transition from a dollar-denominated pricing structure to a naira-based model.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of aviation fuel, which operators say has placed significant financial pressure on domestic airlines.

Airline operators had recently warned of possible disruptions to flight operations due to escalating fuel prices following tensions linked to the US-Iran conflict.

Industry stakeholders noted that aviation fuel prices rose sharply from about N900 per litre before the crisis to between N2,700 and N2,900 per litre, with some marketers reportedly selling as high as N3,300.

The refinery stated that the latest interventions were designed to support airline operators and help sustain flight operations in the face of increasing operational expenses.

Stakeholders in the aviation sector have repeatedly warned that the rising cost of Jet A1 remains one of the biggest challenges affecting the sustainability of airline operations in Nigeria.
