Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a businessman in Irawo, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State, during an attack that also left a 10-year-old girl injured by gunfire.
The incident occurred on Monday after the victim was reportedly followed from Kraal Market in Ago-Are to his filling station and later to his residence in Irawo, where he was abducted at gunpoint by three armed men and taken to an unknown destination.
The injured girl, identified as Modinat Aleshinloye, sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and was rushed to a hospital for treatment and removal of pellets.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Command said the case was reported at the Tede Divisional Headquarters around 10:20 p.m. on May 11, 2026.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Alhaji Wasiu Aleshinloye, was trailed before being kidnapped.
Security operatives who visited the scene recovered three expended ammunition shells and three face caps, which are currently undergoing forensic and ballistic examination.
The police added that tactical and intelligence operations are ongoing to rescue the victim and apprehend those behind the attack.
