Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has announced that President Bola Tinubu approved his redeployment as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa.

Fani-Kayode disclosed the development in a post on X, stating that the redeployment came after he formally requested a change from his earlier posting to Germany.

According to him, he was not comfortable with the Germany posting for personal reasons and preferred to serve in South Africa, a country he said aligns more closely with his political and diplomatic interests.

He explained that having spent most of his life in Europe, he desired a new diplomatic experience in Africa and specifically chose South Africa because of its economic strength, close ties with Nigeria, and shared pan-African outlook.

Fani-Kayode also stated that he communicated his preference to former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, shortly after the initial announcement.

He said the request was later forwarded to President Tinubu, who approved the redeployment.

The former minister maintained that the decision to leave the Germany posting was voluntary and based on his personal convictions and diplomatic preferences.
