A 60-year-old building materials trader has been abducted by suspected gunmen in Ibadan, Oyo State, in an incident that has raised fresh concerns about security in the area.

The abduction occurred on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at about 8:47 p.m. along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road, as the victim was returning to his residence. According to available information, four armed men, all wearing masks, intercepted the trader’s vehicle, blocked his path, and forcefully took him away.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers operated with coordination and speed, leaving little room for resistance. The victim was reportedly bundled into an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla without registration numbers, which the assailants used to flee the scene immediately after the operation.

The development has heightened anxiety among residents and business owners in the area, many of whom have expressed concerns over the increasing boldness of criminal elements. Alakia Road and its surrounding communities are known for both residential and commercial activities, making the incident particularly alarming.

Security operatives were promptly alerted following the incident, and a response team was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers carried out an initial assessment and began efforts to track down the perpetrators. Necessary operational measures were immediately put in place, including coordinated search efforts and intelligence gathering, aimed at rescuing the victim unharmed and bringing those responsible to justice.

Authorities have assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency and seriousness. Investigations are ongoing, with security agencies working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the abduction.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities that may aid ongoing efforts. Meanwhile, the family of the abducted trader is said to be in distress as they await further updates on his whereabouts, with hopes that he will be rescued safely.
