Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered three illegal drug warehouses concealed within a residential estate in the Okota area of Lagos State, leading to the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately ₦16.9 billion.

The intelligence-driven operation resulted in the recovery of a massive quantity of illicit substances, including about 2,360,000 pills of high-potency tramadol (225mg) and 1,909,400 bottles of codeine syrup. The drugs were discovered in multiple locations within the estate, where they had been carefully hidden to avoid detection.

Further findings showed that the seizure comprised over 19,000 cartons containing the codeine syrup and dozens of cartons filled with tramadol tablets, suggesting the existence of a highly organised distribution network operating within the area. The scale of the discovery points to a coordinated effort by drug traffickers to use residential environments as cover for their activities.

Authorities highlighted that the concealment of such large volumes of narcotics in a residential estate reflects the evolving strategies of drug cartels, who increasingly embed their operations within populated communities to evade law enforcement. This development raises concerns about the potential risks posed to residents and the wider society.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse, noting that operations like this are part of a broader strategy to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks across the country. It also warned that individuals involved in the illegal drug trade will continue to be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted, as efforts are strengthened to protect communities and curb the spread of illicit drugs nationwide.
