The Osun State Police Command has called on the public to assist in identifying the family of an elderly woman found wandering within the state.
In an official notice issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, revealed that the woman, who identified herself as Shifawu Alabi, is believed to be about 70 years old. She was discovered on April 24, 2026, in a disoriented state and was subsequently brought to the police by a concerned resident.
According to the police, the Good Samaritan found her around Tiwadayo Street in the Ofatedo area. Upon being questioned, the elderly woman mentioned that she is from the Oja-Oba area in Ibadan. However, she was unable to provide clear or consistent details about her destination, where she was coming from, or how she arrived at her current location.
Authorities noted that her condition suggests possible memory loss or confusion, raising concerns about her safety and wellbeing. Since being taken into protective custody, efforts have been made to ensure she is safe while the police continue attempts to trace her relatives.
The command is now appealing to members of the public, particularly residents of Ibadan and surrounding communities, to come forward with any useful information that could help identify her family or loved ones. Individuals who may recognise her or have relevant details about her background are urged to report to the nearest police station.
Police officials emphasised the importance of community cooperation in such cases, noting that timely information sharing can make a significant difference in reuniting vulnerable individuals with their families.
They also encouraged residents to remain observant and proactive in reporting cases involving missing, elderly, or mentally disoriented persons, stressing that collective vigilance plays a crucial role in ensuring public safety and humanitarian support across communities.
