The Oyo State Police Command has arrested several suspects linked to kidnapping, ritual activities, and armed robbery in different parts of the state, as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Olugbenga, disclosed the development while addressing a press conference in Ibadan. He explained that the arrests were made at different times and locations based on intelligence-led operations carried out by officers of the command. He also confirmed that various items suspected to have been used in criminal activities were recovered from the suspects.
According to the police chief, one of the cases involved a suspect linked to vehicle theft operations. During investigations, officers recovered multiple Toyota car keys believed to be connected to stolen vehicles. Further inquiries led to the arrest of another individual suspected to be a receiver of stolen items, indicating the existence of a broader criminal network.
In a separate operation, a suspect was apprehended with a pump-action gun, live cartridges, expended shells, mobile phones, and other valuables. The suspect reportedly confessed to participating in several armed robbery operations across Ibadan and surrounding areas. Acting on this information, a joint team of operatives carried out a raid on a hideout, leading to the arrest of additional members of the syndicate.
The command also reported the arrest of individuals suspected of engaging in ritual-related activities. Acting on credible intelligence, officers tracked and apprehended a key suspect, whose confession reportedly led to the arrest of accomplices at different locations within Ibadan.
In another case, police investigations uncovered the activities of a kidnapping gang accused of carrying out a violent attack on a residence in a community within Oyo State. The group was said to have been armed with sophisticated weapons, including rifles and other dangerous tools.
The Commissioner of Police noted that many of the suspects have made useful statements to investigators, aiding efforts to uncover more details about their operations and collaborators. He added that investigations are still ongoing, with security agencies intensifying efforts to track down other members of the criminal networks.
He assured residents that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support law enforcement operations. The suspects, he said, will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
