An autopsy has officially clarified the circumstances surrounding the passing of 22-year-old Afrofuji sensation Afeez Adesina, better known by his stage name Destiny Boy.
The young artist, who rose to fame by creatively merging traditional Fuji music with contemporary Afrobeats, passed away on January 17, 2026. His death sparked significant public concern and led to various rumors after footage surfaced online showing his body being moved to a morgue.
Investigation and Forensic Findings
In the wake of public outcry and allegations of foul play, the Ogun State Police Command initiated a formal investigation. While an associate and the singer’s mother, Saida, previously attributed his death to a long-standing health struggle involving seizures, the police conducted an autopsy to provide a definitive answer.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the toxicology results revealed the following:
-
Toxic Substances: The report identified dangerous concentrations of tramadol (and its metabolites) along with methamphetamine in the singer’s system.
-
Official Cause of Death: The pathologist concluded that Adesina died from aspiration pneumonitis, a condition triggered by the ingestion of these lethal substances.
Legal Status
The case was initially handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Homicide Section. One suspect was reportedly detained during the early stages of the inquiry. The case file has since been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal guidance.
A Career Cut Short
Destiny Boy’s journey in the Nigerian music industry was marked by a unique style that captured the hearts of many.
