The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced a round-the-clock security surveillance operation across Kwara State, with special emphasis on Ilorin metropolis and the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.

The new Kwara State Commandant of the corps, Bala Bawa Bodinga, made the disclosure in Ilorin shortly after assuming office. He explained that the initiative forms part of a comprehensive security blueprint aimed at strengthening public safety, safeguarding vital government and private facilities, and restoring residents’ confidence in the state’s security framework.

According to Bodinga, his posting to Kwara was in line with directives from the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to reinforce operational effectiveness and tighten security around critical infrastructure nationwide. He stated that his mandate is clear: to ensure that all essential national assets, public utilities, and key installations across the state are adequately protected from vandalism, sabotage, and other security threats.

The commandant revealed that the strategy under his leadership would be intelligence-driven, blending overt patrol activities with discreet tactical operations. He stressed that while certain security methods cannot be disclosed for operational reasons, robust mechanisms have already been put in place to secure lives and property throughout the state.

As part of the renewed security push, 24-hour surveillance has been activated within Ilorin metropolis. Bodinga noted that patrol teams have been deployed to maintain a constant presence, particularly during nighttime hours when criminal activities are more likely to occur. He emphasized that since assuming duty, the command has not recorded a single night without active patrol operations, underscoring the corps’ commitment to visible and proactive policing.

Addressing concerns about security in other parts of the state, especially Kaiama, the commandant confirmed that additional personnel have been deployed to reinforce stability in the area. He assured residents that the situation is under control and that the corps remains vigilant in responding to emerging threats.

Beyond routine patrols, the NSCDC has also strengthened security arrangements for religious gatherings across Kwara State. Bodinga announced that adequate security coverage would be provided during Friday Jumu’ah prayers in mosques, Sunday church services, and other major religious or social gatherings. He stressed that worship centres must remain safe spaces for citizens to practice their faith without fear or disruption.

On inter-agency collaboration, the commandant highlighted the importance of synergy among security outfits operating in the state. He disclosed that he has initiated contact with heads of sister agencies to enhance intelligence sharing, coordinate joint operations, and avoid duplication of efforts. According to him, effective collaboration remains a cornerstone of sustainable security management.

Bodinga also placed strong emphasis on manpower development and professional training. Drawing from his background in intelligence and operations, he underscored the necessity of continuous capacity building for officers and men of the corps. While some training activities may not be publicly announced, he assured that personnel would receive both technical and professional training to enhance service delivery and operational readiness.

In addition, the command has activated modalities for VIP protection within the state. The commandant explained that structured arrangements are now in place to respond to requests for protective services, although he appealed for patience as the command fully deploys its resources to meet growing demands.

Reaffirming his commitment to effective leadership and improved security outcomes, Bodinga called on residents of Kwara State to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information. He stressed that community cooperation remains vital in preventing crime and maintaining peace.

He assured citizens that with the combined support of other security agencies and the people of the state, the NSCDC would deliver a more robust and responsive security architecture. He urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, expressing confidence that the renewed strategies would usher in a strengthened security presence and a safer environment across Kwara State.
