Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has condemned the recent violent attacks in Kwara and Kebbi states, describing them as assaults on innocent citizens and the peace of the nation. He also called for divine judgment on those behind the violence.
Bassey’s reaction follows the attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, where suspected bandits stormed a worship service that was being livestreamed, leaving worshippers traumatised.
In a message shared on his X handle, the singer lamented the persistence of insecurity in the country and urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the nation. He said the government, security agencies, and all stakeholders need strength and courage to decisively confront those responsible for the attacks.
“I believe with all my heart that this is the time and season for the enemies of this nation to be judged once and for all — terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and all who fund and support them. If we miss this season, we may never get it again,” he stated.
Bassey described Nigeria as “one of the greatest nations on earth,” adding that the constant unrest is part of a long-standing battle for the country’s soul. He referenced Deuteronomy 7, saying Nigeria must confront and conquer the forces working against its progress.
“It’s a new season for Nigeria, and just like in Deuteronomy 7, there are enemies we have to conquer. As long as we ignore these evils, the destiny of this nation will only remain a wish,” he added.
The gospel artiste prayed for unity among security agencies and citizens, noting that silence in the face of aggression would only embolden criminal elements.
He declared, “Every one or group of persons who have determined that Nigeria will not rest, may their end come now. Peace shall reign in Nigeria. Nigeria shall prosper and fulfil her prophetic destiny.”
The attack in Kwara comes amid rising security concerns across the country, including the recent abduction of 25 schoolgirls from a boarding school in Kebbi State.
Other notable Nigerians, including actress Funke Akindele and rapper Falz, have also spoken out, urging authorities to take urgent action to curb the worsening insecurity.
