Veteran Nollywood Actor Baba Gebu Dies After Brief Illness

Veteran Nollywood actor Oyewole Olowomojuore, fondly known as Baba Gebu, has passed away. He reportedly died on Wednesday evening after a brief illness, marking the end of an era for one of Yoruba cinema’s respected elders.

The news of his passing was confirmed by filmmaker and actor Kunle Afod, who paid tribute to the late thespian in an emotional Instagram post. Afod described Baba Gebu as a “great legend” whose contributions to the film industry will never be forgotten.

“It saddens my heart as I announce the passing of our great legend, a great actor who passed away after a brief illness. BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace,” Afod wrote.

Following the announcement, colleagues across the industry expressed their grief and offered prayers for the departed actor.

Actor Yemi Solade prayed for God to grant him eternal rest, while actor Akin Olaiya simply wrote, “Rest in peace, Baba.”

Actress Saje also offered condolences, and actor Abiodun Thomas prayed that God would bless the family and all he left behind.

Sharing a heartbreak emoji, actress Shoa Kosoko described him as a “Legend,” reflecting the deep respect he commanded in the industry.

Baba Gebu, known for his memorable roles in Yoruba films, remains celebrated for his decades-long dedication to Nollywood and the generations of actors he inspired.
