The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has uncovered a syndicate allegedly involved in certificate racketeering and document falsification within the institution.
The Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Friday, saying that five staff members had been suspended and four suspected students arrested in connection with the crime.
According to him, the discovery followed intelligence reports and verification exercises conducted by the institution’s Admission, ICT, and Security Units.
“Recently, the management uncovered a syndicate involving some students, non-students, and a few dishonest staff members who manipulated academic records in clear disregard of due process and institutional values,” Ogbo said.
He revealed that about 30 forged original certificates were discovered, allegedly sold to unsuspecting buyers. The suspects reportedly forged National Diploma (ND) results bearing the name of Kogi State Polytechnic and even used them to apply for Higher National Diploma (HND) admission in the same institution.
“These individuals compromised our internal systems and tampered with security features on our official Statements of Result,” the rector explained.
Professor Ogbo further noted that the suspects conspired with result processors to alter academic records, producing fake results for students with multiple carryovers who never completed their examinations.
“Such criminal acts are a direct attack on the integrity and credibility of our institution. They will not go unpunished,” he warned.
He assured the public that the polytechnic’s security and quality assurance systems remain robust and effective, adding that management would continue to safeguard the institution’s reputation.
“Kogi State Polytechnic will not relent in identifying and eliminating all forms of misconduct that could tarnish its image,” the rector stated.
