The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has inaugurated a five-member legal committee to address the growing issue of land grabbing in Ibadan.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, the traditional ruler expressed deep concern over the negative reputation the issue is bringing to the city. He warned that those involved in land grabbing will soon face serious consequences.
Oba Ladoja, who was recently crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, emphasized that the challenge requires a strong legal response. He tasked the committee with tackling the issue from a legal standpoint and encouraged them to collaborate with experts in various fields, including town planning, surveying, security, and the judiciary, to ensure a comprehensive approach.
The committee is composed of distinguished legal professionals: Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN), Barrister Musibau Adetunbi (SAN), Yinka Okunade, Rahman Abiodun AbdulRaheem, and Tunji Thomas.
Highlighting the complexity of land grabbing, the monarch described it as “an interlocking web of diverse interests that must be unraveled.” He expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to confront the problem effectively, adding that both the Oyo State Government and the Olubadan-in-Council are aligned in their commitment to eradicating the menace.
