The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has called for urgent political and economic reforms to tackle Nigeria’s deep-rooted challenges and pave the way for sustainable development.

Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda, emphasized that the nation’s 65th independence anniversary should be a moment not only for celebration but also for sober reflection on the country’s current state.

He stressed the importance of equitable resource distribution that benefits every Nigerian, regardless of region, religion, or ethnicity.

“We must confront the uncomfortable truth that our political and economic structures require deliberate and timely reforms,” Chinda said. “Only through honesty and realism about our national condition can Nigeria move from stalled development toward achieving its full potential as a prosperous nation.”

Chinda highlighted ongoing issues such as poor governance, lack of inclusive economic growth, insecurity, hunger, youth unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure as major barriers to progress.

He also warned that the nation’s core values of equity, fairness, and justice are under strain, causing divisions that threaten national unity and development.

Paying tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers and heroes who sacrificed for the country’s independence, Chinda urged leaders at all levels to show genuine commitment to the welfare of citizens and uphold accountability.

He called on all Nigerians to recommit to peace, unity, and development while embracing the country’s diversity as a source of strength rather than division.

“No single group, no matter how powerful, can achieve meaningful progress in isolation,” he noted. “It is only through shared purpose, understanding, and cooperation that we can overcome our challenges and emerge stronger.”

Chinda concluded by encouraging Nigerians to renew their hope and dedication to building a greater Nigeria that fulfills the dreams of the nation’s founders and meets the expectations of future generations.
