The Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to honor his commitment to disburse ₦500 million to Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in 2024.

Lawmakers also urged that, starting January 2026, the university be included in the state’s monthly subvention payments to sustain its operations.

The call was made after a motion by Hon. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi (Ibadan South West Constituency 2) and seconded by Hon. Babajide Adebayo (Ibadan North Constituency 2), citing the institution’s struggles with funding for infrastructure, staff welfare, and everyday academic needs.

Fowokanmi commended the governor for inaugurating the university’s Governing Council, but emphasized that the promised funds are yet to be released. He added that the institution has had to resort to bank borrowings to meet financial obligations, especially in light of increased wage demands.

In support, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola — Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning — stressed that regular funding would strengthen the university’s capacity to retain staff, expand facilities, and admit more students.

Hon. Babajide Adebayo also advocated for a full audit of the university’s accounts to ensure transparency.

Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin granted approval for the House Committee on Tertiary Education to engage the university management, review financial records, and address key challenges hindering its growth.
