Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says plan is underway to digitalise the private library of the late a former governor Omololu Olunloyo.
Speaking during an executive session held in honour of the elder statesman at the House of Chiefs, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, Governor Makinde said the initiative is a tribute to Olunloyo’s significant contributions to the education sector.
The remains of the late former governor were brought in a casket, which was covered with the Nigerian flag.
Makinde described Olunloyo as a “genius” whose impact on education at both the state and national levels remains unforgettable
“His private library is a treasure trove of knowledge capable of offering solutions to numerous societal challenges. He invested his resources in books. This He announced that the park named after the former governor was ready for inauguration.
In a solemn moment during the event, Governor Makinde called for a minute of silence to honour the victims of a tragic accident that occurred on Tuesday at Soka in Ibadan.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, and Acting Rector, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, eulogised the late Olunloyo, describing him as embodiment of great commitment to public service.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mrs. Oluyemi Olunloyo-Buckner described her father as not only a man of exceptional intellect but also a loving patriarch who gave his family identity, heritage, and unwavering support.
Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of the old Oyo State and an acclaimed mathematician, passed away on April 6, just days before his 90th birthday.
