The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has said that the recent plan by the Dangote Refinery to distribute petrol and diesel free of charge to marketers across the country would bring cheaper oil to the doorsteps of Nigerians.
Speaking on televised programme on Friday, IPMAN’s National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, commended billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote for identifying a critical issue in the sector and taking bold steps to address it.
According to him, aside from fuel easily getting to people’s doorposts across the country, Dangote’s new plan will relieve marketers of unnecessary costs
Earlier on Sunday, the Dangote Refinery announced its plan to offer free distribution of petrol and diesel to marketers, dealers, and large-scale consumers across Nigeria.
As part of the rollout, the refinery has also acquired 4,000 brand-new tankers powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), with full implementation set to begin on August 15, 2025.
Meanwhile, oil marketers under the aegis of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, greeted the announcement with complaints.
According to PETROAN, the plan would deprive depot owners, truck operators, and retail outlets who have special deals for the direct delivery of petrol and diesel to large corporations and multinationals.
In response, Ukadike rejected PETROAN’s stance, emphasizing that Dangote, as a refinery owner, has the autonomy to choose the most efficient method of distributing his products to marketers.
