There was panic at the Mokola area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital yesterday as armed robbers attacked some shops in the bustling city. Shooting sporadically into the air to scare away innocent people, the operation was said to have lasted barely five minutes.
According to reports, at least three individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the incident, which occurred near the Mokola Bridge. Eyewitnesses stated that the victims were attacked just as they approached a store to purchase provisions, suggesting the robbers may have been trailing them. The attackers reportedly escaped with an undisclosed amount of money at gunpoint.
Another source said the armed robbers shot sporadically for minutes and two people sustained gunshot injuries while another person lost consciousness before the arrival of the police.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at Alaafia Hospital in Mokola, while security presence in the area has since been reinforced. The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, has confirmed the incident
