The Nigerian Senate has expressed deep frustration over the recurring bloodshed in Benue, Borno, Plateau, and other parts of the country, declaring that lawmakers are exhausted from offering condolences while lives continue to be lost in droves.

At a press briefing held Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, condemned the ongoing cycle of bloodshed and mourning, describing it as deeply troubling to the upper chamber.

The lawmaker’s remarks come in the wake of the latest carnage in Benue State, where over 100 people including women, children, displaced persons, and security personnel were brutally killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants

In response, the Senate announced that a delegation of lawmakers would accompany President Bola Tinubu on a solidarity visit to Benue on Wednesday. The visit aims to ease tensions and demonstrate national unity and support for the affected communities

Beyond the visit, the senator stressed that the upper chamber is taking broader steps to tackle insecurity, including renewed legislative support for the nation’s security architecture and the push for a national security summit involving all critical stakeholders.

He acknowledged that although some progress has been achieved through legislative collaboration with security agencies, the recent surge in violence particularly in the North Central and North East—has significantly undermined these efforts.
