President Bola Tinubu has met Senior Advisor for Africa in U.S. President Donald Trump’s State Department team, Mr Massad Boulos, to explore what both sides called a “strategic economic and security partnership” built on mutual prosperity and regional stability.

“The meeting focused on developing a strategic economic and security partnership between Nigeria, Africa, and the United States anchored on mutual respect, prosperity, and regional stability,” Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed in a statement on Sunday.

He added that Washington hopes to “expand American investment in Nigeria and Africa, support energy and infrastructure development, and align trade and job creation efforts.”

The talks come as President Donald Trump imposed a new wave of reciprocal tariffs targeting approximately 90 countries under what he termed “Liberation Day” economic reforms.

While most nations received a temporary 90-day reprieve and were subjected to a general 10 per cent tariff, China was specifically targeted with steep duties raised to 125 per cent, a retaliatory move for its earlier tariff increases on U.S. imports.

Nigeria was among the countries included in the broad application of the 10 per cent blanket tariff under this revised tariff scheme.
