NEW ALAAFIN INAUGURATES 97-MAN CORONATION COMMITTEE

The new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has set up a 97-member local organising coronation committee to oversee activities for the ceremony fixed for April 5, 2025.

A statement by the Chief of Staff to the monarch, Rotimi Osuntola, said the committee was inaugurated to ensure a grand and seamless ceremony that will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

The committee which is chaired by former INEC Commissioner, Dr. Kunle Ogunmola, will work alongside the 25-member committee earlier inaugurated by the Oyo State government.

Others include Prince Olayide Owoade, Prince Kazeem Ayoade Owoade, Prince Tolani Owoade, Prince Taiwo Owoade, and Princess Fatimo Azeez (nee Owoade).

Also on the committee are Rotimi Osuntola, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Chief of Protocol to President Bola Tinubu, Amb. Adekunle Adeleke; High Chief Asimiyu Atanda (Agbaakin of Oyo) and High Chief Lamidi Oyewale (Basaamu  of Oyo).

The committee also include several traditional leaders and prominent figures, such as High Chief Samuel Olu Odurinde (Alajagba), High Chief Mukaila Afonja (Baba Iyaji), High Chief Isiaka Tella (Ona ‘Sokun), High Chief Ganiyu Ajiboye (Oloja of Ago Oja), and High Chief Ademola Oyediran (Alaguo).

Honourable Akeem Adeyemi (Skimeh), Honourable Gbenga Oyekola, and Honourable Olorunpoto Rahaman are among the political representatives involved in the planning process.

Additionally, the committee features several local government chairmen and representatives from various community organisations.

An inaugural meeting of the committee will hold on February 12, 2025, at Alaafin’s Palace, Oyo.
