Lagos State House of Assembly has sworn in, Mojisola Meranda as the speaker replacing Mudashiru Obasa, who was impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office by the legislative arm on Monday.
Meranda took her oath of office after the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday during a plenary session.
Taking her oath of office, Meranda said, “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
She was first elected member of the Lagos House of Assembly from Apapa 1 in 2015 when Mr Obasa was first elected Speaker. She is currently serving her third term as a lawmaker.
In the 9th Assembly, she served as the chief whip. Until her emergence as the speaker, she was deputy speaker of the 10th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
She was born on August 16, 1980, in Lagos. She attended Randle Primary School and Anglican Girls Grammar School and took undergraduate and graduate studies at Lagos State University and the University of Lagos, respectively.
Meranda is the first female to emerge as speaker in Lagos House of Assembly.
