Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached their Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, accusing him of multiple statutory and financial infractions.
The removal comes barely a month after Obasa was accused of allegedly spending N17 billion to fix a gate that leads to the assembly.
Mr Obasa has subsequently been replaced by his deputy, Hon. Lasbat Miranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, was also a former chief whip of the House.
Mrs Miranda will be the first female speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The Deputy Chief Whip, Hon Fatai Mojeed is elected as the Deputy Speaker.
Mr Obasa, 52, was first elected Speaker on June 8, 2015, resuming office alongside former one-term governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
