Less than 48-hours to the September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, commenced the distribution of sensitive materials to the 18 local government areas of the state.

The distribution process is being done in the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria, located at the Ring Road, by Akpakpava Junction.

The hired vehicles that will convey the materials to various locations have already been stationed beside the CBN, while the area is closed to commercial activities as buses plied one way to enter and exit the area.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Onuoha Anugbum, supervised the distribution of the material.

Also, the Police Service Commission (PSC)  officials monitoring team has arrived in the State.

According to a press statement made available by PSC’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, on Thursday, the personnel would monitor the conduct of police officers during Saturday’s governorship elections in the state.

Ani said the team will be led by a retired Deputy Inspector General, DIG Taiwo Lakanu and will include other high-ranking staff.

At least 2,629,025 registered voters are expected to participate in the exercise which has generated a lot of tension in the state in recent days.
