The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero has said that his appearance before the Police was in the interest of transparency and to clear the air on the unfounded accusations leveled against him and the NLC.
The NLC President, who appeared at the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, had been invited by the Police to address allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.
Ajaero, in the company of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana and a coalition of lawyers arrived the command at Guzape at 10:15 a.m. and left around 11:18 a.m.
While addressing a crowd of labour members who gathered at the NLC headquarters to welcome him after honouring the police invitation, Ajaero asserted that the NLC remains committed to defending the rights of Nigerian workers.
“We can’t be intimidated”, he stated emphatically.
“The allegations against us are baseless, and we have nothing to hide.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Lead Counsel for the NLC President, Maxwell Opara, who also spoke to newsmen, said it was a very friendly interaction, as the Police summoned the NLC leader to ask questions about a tenant occupying a shop within the Labour Secretariat whom they were investigating.
According to Opara, the person was one of the protesters and they wanted to know if he was one of the tenants of Labour House.
Opara, however, said that the Union together with the legal team will not relent, as they do not know what is going to come up next.
