The police have launched a manhunt for Mrs. Dupe Onitiri-Abiola, a suspected sponsor of the invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Ibadan by some Yoruba Nation agitators.

The manhunt for Mrs. Onitiri-Abiola, a widow of the prominent politician, the late Chief Moshood Abiola, followed her broadcast in a viral video in which she claimed responsibility for the violence that jolted the governments of the six Southwest.

It will be recalled that the agitators last Saturday were seen wielding guns and other weapons, many of them were dressed in Army camouflage and armed with rifles invaded and occupied strategic points in the Oyo State House of Assembly complex located inside the secretariat and raised their flag.

Report says some the masked agitators manned the entrance of the Governor’s Office, the rest were reportedly seen at the entrance to the state House of Assembly’s gate and the main entrance.

However, the arrival of soldiers from 2 Div ision of the Nigerian Army about an hour later changed the narrative as they stormed the vicinity with some of the agitators at the entrance gate taking to their heels. The stern-looking officers were said to have gone after the masked agitators.

The Oyo State Police arrested 20 suspected Yoruba nation agitators over Saturday’s invasion of the state’s House of Assembly complex in Ibadan.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police spokesman, SP Adewale Osifeso in Ibadan the Oyo state capital.

Osifeso stated that the arrested suspects had in their possession three pump action guns, 29 life cartridges, two expended cartridges, 67 cutlasses, five bulletproof vests and six pairs of boots.

He assured that appropriate punishment would be meted to those found guilty, while the police would continue to protect law-abiding citizens.
