The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates unions have commenced the planned protests and rally over the high cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and hardship in the country.

In the Oyo State capital, Ibadan, the protesters gathered at the NLC State Secretariat, Yidi, and then proceded to Agodi Gate area, Total Garden, Mokola and Dugbe axis and other parts of the city.

Almond FM correspondents observed that the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan, gate was locked while members of the Federal Workers Forum were on ground to ensure compliance with a directive issued earlier that the Federal workers should join the rally.

The National Coordinator of the Forum, Comrade Andrew Emelieze noted that it was necessary for all Federal civil servants to also come out and kick against the policies causing hardship on the people

Similarly, attendance was low at the offices visited within the Oyo state secretariats at Agodi Ibadan as many workers  participated in the two-days protest declared by the NLC.

In Lagos, protesters had gathered as early as 7:30 a.m., bearing placards with different inscriptions and putting on the paraphernalia of the NLC.

While addressing newsmen in Abuja, the NLC National Chairman, Joe Ajaero emphasised the need for better living conditions for Nigerians, calling on the Federal Government to implement the new minimum wage among other demand.

The protest is holding simultaneously in FCT, Kano, Kwara, Lagos, Edo, Ogun, Ondo,Ekiti, Rivers, Imo, Borno and other states.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has called for calm in the state, and assured the protesters of his commitment and support towards ensuring a better Nigeria.

The Governor while addressing the workers at the Total Garden area gave an assurance that the hardship being experienced by Nigerians will be over soon.
