Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has questioned the estimated ₦15tn cost of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, calling on Nigerians to demand accountability from the Federal Government over the project.

Falana raised concerns about the highway’s reported route changes and funding during a public event, in remarks shared by News Central TV. He questioned why a project initially designed to run along the coast was reportedly being redirected inland and demanded clarification on how the ₦15tn earmarked for the project would be spent.

He urged citizens to scrutinise government expenditure, stressing that public accountability was necessary to prevent the misuse of public funds.

The lawyer also warned political parties and candidates in Lagos State against electoral violence and voter suppression ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Falana expressed concern that eligible voters could be intimidated or prevented from voting because of their ethnic backgrounds or perceived origins. He urged candidates across political parties to work together to protect voters and defend the integrity of the electoral process.

He maintained that no eligible Nigerian should be denied the right to vote because of ethnicity, appearance or political affiliation, calling for collective efforts to prevent thuggery and violence during the elections.
