The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has lamented the worsening insecurity in the country, saying Nigeria has been in a state of war for more than a decade.

TUC President, Festus Osifo, made the remarks on Wednesday after the union’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja. He said kidnapping and killings remained widespread in several parts of the country, describing kidnapping as a booming business for criminal elements.

Osifo urged the Federal Government to increase funding and provide security agencies with the necessary equipment to tackle terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. He warned that insecurity was discouraging both foreign and local investment and called on the government to make the protection of lives and property its top priority.

He also condemned the death of about 37 people in Niger State while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, urging the government to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.
