The trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and his co-defendant, Henry Omoile, has been adjourned until November 11, 12 and 13, 2026, by the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja.
The proceedings were stalled on Tuesday following Emefiele’s absence from court. His lawyer told the court that the former CBN governor was attending another trial in Abuja on the same dates scheduled for the Lagos proceedings.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission also informed the court that Emefiele had written a letter dated October 6, notifying it of his engagement in the Abuja case.
Emefiele is facing a 19-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office, receiving gratification, making corrupt demands and fraudulent property transactions involving about $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion. Omoile is facing three separate counts relating to alleged unlawful acceptance of gifts.
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Justice Rahman Oshodi subsequently vacated the earlier October dates and fixed November 11, 12 and 13 for continuation of the trial.
