PH Refinery Workers Threaten Shutdown Over Unpaid Salaries

Support staff at the Port Harcourt Refining Company have threatened to shut down the refinery if the management fails to address their demands over seven months of unpaid salaries and the non-implementation of a newly approved salary structure.

The workers, who protested at the refinery in Eleme, Rivers State, gave the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited a 48-hour ultimatum to implement the salary structure, pay their outstanding wages and address other welfare concerns.

The union also demanded a proposed N1 million housing or rent relief for eligible workers and improved engagement between management and labour representatives. The workers warned that failure to meet their demands within the 48-hour period would lead to a total shutdown of the facility.
