Police Hunt Suspects Over Mob Killing in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the mob killing of an unidentified man in Ikpe Ikot Akpan Village, along the Ikot Ekpene–Uyo Road.

The incident occurred at about 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday after the man was allegedly accused of attempting to steal a motorcycle belonging to one Idoroenyin Udo.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the motorcycle owner raised an alarm after resisting the alleged theft, prompting residents to pursue and apprehend the suspect.

The police said the man was attacked and set ablaze by the mob.

Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, condemned the incident and warned residents against jungle justice.

He urged members of the public to hand suspected criminals over to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.

The command said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest everyone involved in the mob action, adding that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted according to the law.
